Just finished this graphic for my good friends in the ska/pop band Suburban Legends. I met the guys several years ago because their practice space was in the warehouse right next to the old Franco Shade warehouse in Santa Ana. Whenever I would work late, which was often, I would always hear them jamming into the night.

On one fateful night their guitarist Brian Klemm came over and offered me a 40oz in the spirit of being a good neighbor. I don’t know if I ever drank the beer, but we struck up a friendship and have been buddies ever since.

Brian and Vince (the lead singer) approached me recently about creating a shirt graphic to support their new tour. They gave me the concept and the tagline, “Dude Alert!” and I just had to make it happen.
Suburban Legends are playing with the Aqua Bats and Reel Big Fish at the House of Blues in Los Angeles this Thursday. See you there!

In an earlier post I previewed a new graphic, “Still Smokin” that will be coming out very soon with our Spring/Summer release. In the photo above you can see the “Still Smokin” graphic alongside a graphic done by Frank Kozik that was released by Kid Robot at least a year ago.

John Dillingham spotted a graphic that I made for Franco Shade in a short film online called, “Turbo.”

Paul and Michael came by several MONTHS ago to shoot an interview for fakeRICH. Now, following right on the heels of the Rolling Revival interview that just went live a couple of days ago, is the fakeRICH interview which was (finally!) posted today.
The fakeRICH interview is full of great content that covers everything from skating to Franco Shade to New Order and Dethklok Metalocalypse. There was SO MUCH great content, in fact, that the video had to be divided into two sections. They are both available for viewing right now on the fakeRICH site. Anyone who can stomach the thought of listening to me ramble on for another 20 minutes or so should make their way over to fakeRICH to check out the full interview.

Thanks to Paul Nguyen and Michael Sabounchi for considering me for the interview and for all of their hardwork on its execution.

Paul Meshreky is one of the friends I made at Paul Frank who I still keep in touch with (occassionally). Paul is with Yo Gabba Gabba now, the all around awesome kids show! One of the nice things about guy friends is that once you are friends the relationship doesn’t require any maintenance at all. You just leave it out there and then one day if the inspiration strikes, like if you come across something really funny or really novel, you reach out, no matter how much time has passed.

For the uninitiated, Alexa is software that you can download that tracks the rankings (popularity) of every single site on the world wide web. I’ve blogged about it before, but basically all you need to know is that after you install the software every time you visit a site its Alexa ranking will appear in the bottom right corner.

So, in the last post I had this AMAZING photo of my work station. It looked sleek and clean and the new desktop was just glowing! Pretty impressive considering I just shot it in natural light with my iPhone.
Actually there is a little more to the story than that. For the past couple of years I have had a job to go to. Like to actually physically leave the house TO GO to. This is significant because I used to do a lot of freelance work, so prior to the last couple of years I mostly worked out of the house. In fact, I had a pretty nice little home operation set up. I had stylish tables and chairs from Ikea and a nice stainless steel G5 Mac with a matching stainless steel 17 inch monitor; it was all pretty sweet.

Anyone who follows the Franco Shade blog may already be aware that Drew Matthews handles all of their web stuff. For the past couple of weeks Drew has also been helping me to get GOST ready and operating on the web. In fact, without Drew yesterday’s official launch just would not have been possible, so I owe him a big thanks! Thank you DREW!!

Announcing Big Changes for 2009!

We have all witnessed the evolution of Franco Shade and the Ghost and Knives logo over the past several years. Both the Franco Shade name and the logo have generated a lot of interest in this time. Franco Shade and the Ghost have both become a part of the fabric of streetwear culture in Orange County and beyond.
Now in 2009 Franco Shade and the iconic Ghost and Knives logo will split into two separate companies. Franco Shade will continue on with Joe Navran at the helm and the whole Franco Team intact: Tui, Thomas, Jerm and crew.
Arlo Eisenberg will direct a brand new spin-off company featuring the Ghost and Knives logo, appropriately named GOST (pronounced “ghost”).
